I have no interest in commenting on Imus' "nappy-headed hoes" remark - enough has already been written on the wrongs and general melee of the incident as a whole.
But I will post the following video and pose the following questions:
1. Why are there innumerable photographers/videographers in the studio?
2. What does Sharpton hope to accomplish by having Imus on the show?
3. Was anything accomplished?
4. Is an identifiable punishment required for a racist/stupid comment, or is general public scorn sufficient enough?
5. As noted by others, if Imus' show really is a comedy show, and racist comments (both by blacks and whites) proliferate comedy clubs across America every night without comparable outcry, why is Imus held accountable and comedians are not? Is the medium of radio different from stand-up comedy in terms of appropriate material?

Quite a difficult situation to say the least...but Imus has managed to put himself, quite adeptly I might add, in the claws of a bear - I don't think he will soon find himself free from the clutches of this 'media-purge'. No matter, if he soon finds himself out of harm's way, I would go so far as to say that the poor man has been mortally wounded and so will soon die, professionally speaking that is. Too damn bad the bear claws are his own two feet! Is all this necessary? Hell yeah! Say what you want, but you will be held accountable.
Dear Boy,
Get out of your bubble. You are implying that freedom of speech is not a freedom at all. You say-We are allowed to say whatever we want to say but we will be held accountable for everything that we say.
Held accountable by whom, or rather, by what apparatus?
Freedom of speech is an absolute freedom. habu gilofinkle doodoohead.
In Imus' case, freedom of speech is being -legislated- by the media. Imus, in the media world, broke a law and is now paying the consequences for breaking that law.
A speaker is held accountable for what he says, and so, is -conscious- of his speech... he might think to himself -I can say this but I can't say that...consciousness. But that speaker is conscious of his speech on the lowest level. His consciousness is borne of fear.
